ECO7: the green generation

Maximum product quality with minimum environmental impact are the result of the state-of-the-art technology of PM7. Compared to other paper machines at Swiecie, the production of one tonne of paper on PM7 will consume

  • 20% less steam
  • 30% less electricity
  • 40% less water

To optimise power generation systems and effluent treatment processes we have taken a series of non-standard, proactive and pro-ecological measures going beyond the conventional.

No compromise on air
Recent investments enable us to minimise our carbon footprint substantially by reducing CO2 emissions by more than 100,000 tpy, which is in addition to the 400,000 tpy already achieved in previous years. This means a reduction of over 60%, despite paper production increasing significantly. This extraordinarily low emission level will rank us among the world’s top companies on air emissions.

No compromise on water
We are continuing our work, begun a decade ago, to reduce the effluent discharged into the Vistula river. Discharge levels are already below the most recent targets set by the European Union. Total water consumption, and notably freshwater consumption, have been reduced by 73% – from 96 to 26 m3/t.

No compromise on resources
Using about 420,000 tpy of secondary fibre, Mondi Swiecie is Poland’s largest consumer of waste paper. When PM7 reaches full capacity, its total waste paper consumption will increase to around 900,000 tpy, equating to over 40% of collected wastepaper in Poland.
